The aim of the article is to establish the relationship between media revenue from TV licences and advertising and the viewership rate. The financial success of a media company is linked to the size of its audience that is ready to pay for the information received. If the media market is governed by the „invisible hand”, as the economic equilibrium was defined by Adam Smith, undoubtedly this hand takes the form of the viewership which is in opposition to the „mission” implemented by means of a TV licence.
